I'd rather hear a great performance than see one. If that requires putting on a major puppet show, then I'm sure some people enjoy watching the display. MP:Do whatever you need to do to make the piano sound great. PL:The original poster never said anything about exaggerated motions. I think it's often just theatric nonsense, spending unnecessary energy just to put on an appearance. MP:Some people apparently need exaggerated motions to play musically (or maybe they just think they do). It may be good or bad depending on your technical approach. This is just one of thousands of ideas related to technique. PL:Almost every serious pianist and piano teacher cares about technique.
